All PhD positions are full-time, 4 years, on-site in Linz

Program Description:

The PhD program Computational X promotes interdisciplinary research facilitating the convergence of natural sciences like biology, social sciences and humanities with computational sciences. The program supports junior researchers in developing their abilities to perform independent scientific research.

PhD students will acquire a comprehensive range of computational skills and methods, ranging from data science to artificial intelligence to robotics, as well as a solid core of 21st century skills. This will empower students to transform their respective disciplines with computational methods and explore frontiers in the digitalization of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Through the interdisciplinary approach, researchers are enabled to develop, implement, and execute innovative solutions to current societal challenges. This contributes to the digital transformation of science, economy, and society.

Research groups:

responsibilities and tasks

As a PostDoc you develop your research agenda within the overall scope and in collaboration with the group. You spearhead and further your field of expertise, share and learn in equal measures. You independently design and conduct research studies, you write publications for top scientific venues and develop applications for research funding. You are involved in co-supervising PhD and master students and help bringing your research into the teaching at IT:U.

As a PhD student, you acquire new skills within our training program and benefit from high quality supervision. You will develop your own research agenda and conduct interdisciplinary research increasingly independent over the four years. You will also gain valuable educational experience by having the opportunity to teach other students in your field of expertise. You will write and publish several research papers, culminating in writing and defending your PhD thesis. To achieve all of this, you are embedded in an inspiring and supportive environment with world-class research infrastructure at your disposal at our campus in Linz, Austria.

skills and qualifications

You have defended (or are close to) your doctoral thesis (for PostDoc positions) or completed your master’s degree (for PhD positions) in any field that can be located within the thematic landscape of each research focus. You feel uneasy about being put into a single disciplinary drawer and thrive in interdisciplinary environments. You are driven by curiosity and a team player. You have fluent English communication and academic writing skills.
