David Hanny
Short bio:
David Hanny is a PhD student with the Geosocial AI group at IT:U. His work focuses on spatially explicit machine learning for multimodal social sensing data. In the age of big data, information comes in so many forms that it is becoming increasingly challenging to integrate them, e.g. text geographic positions, time or images. This is especially the case if data is derived from multiple crowd-source sensors like mobile phones and social media platforms. Throughout his PhD, David aims to develop new machine learning methods that can handle all this heterogeneous data at once, with a special focus on geographic space. He holds a master’s degree in data science from the University of Salzburg and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Applied Sciences Vienna. With experience in data science, media and academia, David has always bridged multiple domains and loves to leverage computational methods to tackle real-world challenges.
