671 Worldwide Applicants for New Professorships
IT:U Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria is expanding its faculty with ten new professorships in Industrial Innovation, Data Science, Art & Technology, Economics, and Cyber Security. This milestone highlights IT:U’s growing global recognition, attracting 671 applications from 70 countries, including Austria, Germany, Japan, China, Hong Kong, the U.S., and the U.K.
With these ten new professorships, IT:U is further paving the way for interdisciplinary research and education, fostering a study environment at the intersection of various disciplines and computer sciences. The newly appointed professors will complement the eleven research groups already established in autumn 2024, following the appointment of IT:U’s first founding professors.
– Stefanie Lindstaedt, Founding President of IT:U
“The overwhelmingly positive response to our call for new professorships confirms that we are on the right path with our model of interdisciplinary research and education. Compared to last year’s recruitment of founding professors, we have increased application numbers by an impressive 67.5%. Our focus on digital transformation resonates with researchers worldwide.”
In ten new research groups, these professors will work on critical topics shaping the future—ranging from digital transformation in industry and the power of data and its societal implications to cybersecurity and quantum technologies.
“Our research addresses pressing challenges and embraces interdisciplinary approaches to develop sustainable and innovative solutions. This requires visionary researchers—curious minds with the ability to look beyond their own disciplines and pioneer new paths together. With 30% of applicants being women, we have successfully doubled the proportion of female candidates compared to our first recruitment round, underscoring the attractiveness of our interdisciplinary approach for women in academia.”
– Stefanie Lindstaedt, Founding President of IT:U
The next phase will involve five appointment committees, which will review applications and invite the most promising candidates for interviews. These hearings are scheduled for May and June.
The ten newly appointed professors are expected to begin their roles at IT:U in October 2025—coinciding with the launch of IT:U’s first Master’s program, “Interdisciplinary Computing.”
