IT:U welcomes its 2nd PhD Cohort
IT:U Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria has welcomed its 2nd group of PhD students, marking the beginning of their academic journey. Coming from both Austria and various countries around the world, this diverse cohort reflects the university’s international research environment. The Welcome Week is designed to introduce them to the university’s research environment, connect them with peers and faculty, and provide essential resources for their doctoral studies. Through interactive sessions and discussions, students gain insight into their respective research groups while engaging with the broader academic community.
As part of the introduction, students explore IT:U’s learning and project management systems, equipping them with the necessary tools to navigate their research. The program includes networking opportunities, research presentations, and an overview of available academic support, ensuring a strong foundation for the years ahead.
A Week of Orientation and Academic Engagement
To facilitate a smooth transition, PhD students take part in a series of structured activities aimed at fostering collaboration and academic development. The Welcome Week features networking sessions, lab introductions, and an overview of IT:U’s approach to project-based learning, ensuring students are well-prepared for their research responsibilities.
A key moment of the program is the opportunity for students to present their research interests and connect with research groups. This exchange allows them to align their academic focus with ongoing projects and establish relationships with faculty and peers. The week also includes a formal Honor Code signing ceremony, emphasizing IT:U’s commitment to academic integrity and excellence, with Founding President Stefanie Lindstaedt leading the session on the university’s mission and vision.
The program concludes with cultural and social activities, including a guided city tour, giving students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new environment. By the end of the week, they will have established valuable connections, gained a deeper understanding of their academic setting, and taken an important step toward their research goals.
