Meet the Expert
Matthias is the LearnLab Expert and Lecturer for ROB. His work focuses on developing human-centred robotic solutions for real-world applications. He is particularly interested in creating systems that are intuitive, usable, and genuinely beneficial for people.
Previously, he has worked on research projects in service robotics, including robots for household support and the deployment of robotic technologies in care homes. His research aims to enable humans to teach robots new skills without requiring prior technical expertise, making robotic systems more adaptable and accessible.
In his lab, students learn to work with different robotic platforms using transferable open-source frameworks. A strong focus is placed on perception-driven robotics, enabling systems to interpret and respond to their environment through multimodal sensing, including vision-based approaches.
