Negotiating Knowledge: Trust in Science in the Digital Age
How can societies maintain trust in science when knowledge creation increasingly involves not only researchers, but also AI systems, digital platforms, citizens and distributed networks?
At Ars Electronica Festival 2026, we’re inviting audiences to explore exactly that question in “Negotiating Knowledge: Trust in Science in the Digital Age.”
IT:U professor Bernd Resch and researchers Janja Dörsch and Marlene Jungreithmair from the @geosocial AI research group will discuss how trust in science is built, challenged, and maintained when knowledge is created and shared across digital platforms and networked communities.
The discussion is part of Climate Agents: Negotiating Knowledge, a project that connects students, researchers, AI tools, data, and local environments. Through citizen science activities, participants investigate climate change in their own communities, engage with scientific methods, and turn evidence into narratives that contribute to public discourse.
