AI Evening: Chatting with AI & Algorithms – When AI Becomes Part of Our Relationships
with technology philosopher Christoph Hubatschke (IT) at the Digital City Studio
An evening about heartbreak, coaching bots, and the question of what makes us human.
Whether as a smart everyday assistant, a virtual coach, or a loyal companion that is always available, artificial intelligence is quietly but deeply entering our emotional and social relationships. AI chatbots do not contradict us, are available around the clock, and are always ready to offer support. But what does this kind of interaction do to our real human relationships?
In a relaxed setting, we will explore current social developments, opportunities, and risks surrounding conversational AI and digital companions.
Key questions include:
- How do conversations with AI systems affect our understanding of friendship and romantic relationships?
- Could flawless digital listeners gradually reduce our tolerance for the quirks, imperfections, and conflicts of real people?
- Where can chatbots provide valuable support in difficult situations – and where does emotional dependency begin?
- What makes us uniquely human in an age of increasingly likeable and responsive algorithms?
The evening will critically examine technological developments within their broader philosophical and social context. Rather than providing ready-made answers, technology philosopher Christoph Hubatschke from the HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) research group at IT will offer thought-provoking perspectives and questions for discussion.
Following the introductory talk, participants will take part in a short exchange with the people seated next to them to sharpen the questions for the joint discussion that follows.
Afterwards, there will be time for informal conversations and personal exchange. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try out a range of digital technologies, including a VR headset, a robot dog, and an augmented reality sandbox.
