Presentation of the new IT:U campus!
On May 2, 2024 the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft, IT:U, the Province of Upper Austria, and the City of Linz presented the winner of the international architecture competition for the new IT:U campus in Linz.
The design by the architectural firm Kronaus Mitterer Architekten ZT GmbH was unanimously chosen as the winner by the commission in a multi-stage selection process.
The project envisages a campus with three horizontal and maximum four-storey structures made of wood. The building ensemble is characterized by its openness and multifunctionality: There will be many small labs and meeting points in which students, professors, and researchers at IT:U can advance and implement their project-based interdisciplinary research and teaching in an agile and flexible manner.
The new IT:U campus will be built in several construction phases from the end of 2025. The entire campus is intended to be completed by 2036 and provide space for around 3,000 students and employees in a net area of around 35,000 square metres. With its characteristics, it will be perfect surroundings to support interdisciplinary problem-solving processes by digital transformation.
