From Learn-Labs to Industry Impact: The Innovative Education Model of IT:U
Thanks to brutkasten, Gerd Christian Krizek, Head of Study Portfolio & Student Affairs at IT:U – Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria, joined the studio to discuss how IT:U is rethinking higher education in the digital age.
In this episode, he shares how IT:U’s structure and educational model differ from traditional universities. As a newly established public technical university in Linz, IT:U focuses on interdisciplinary education and research in the field of digital transformation. The core of its teaching approach is Active Learning, with a strong emphasis on Project-Based Learning. Students work in small groups in Learn-Labs, developing real-world solutions through hands-on projects from industry, society, and research.
In addition to existing PhD programs, IT:U will launch its first Master’s program, Interdisciplinary Computing, in October, starting with 40 places. This program is open to graduates from all academic backgrounds who have a strong interest in digital transformation.
